When Your Intuition Says “Trust” — Even When Life Says “No”
Have you ever felt completely certain that you were following the right path—only to have something happen that made you question everything?
Maybe you’ve experienced that moment when your intuition feels clear, but life seems to say otherwise.
That space between inner knowing and uncertainty can be uncomfortable. It can bring up self-doubt, fear, and the question: Did I get it wrong?
I know that feeling well.
This is part of my own story of learning to trust my intuition—even when I couldn't see where it was leading.
When Self-Doubt Makes You Question Your Intuition
So—we continue with the house search. Ready?
I fell in love almost immediately: a yellow house overlooking the lake and the mountains, close to the Canadian British Columbia border.
We toured it. My husband fell in love, too. The seller was negotiating with us.
Green lights everywhere!!
Then we hit the wall.
My husband and I are both business owners (he's a brand-new restaurant owner), which meant traditional lenders shook their heads.
"You have to wait two years," they said.
Two years??
We don't have consistent WATER.
But alas, we had to let that lending route go.
We were crushed. And the questioning began.
Do you know that voice within yourself?
Self-doubt.
For me, it looked like:
Is this not right for us?
Did I have it wrong?
Was my intuition off?
Self-doubt landed like a rock in my stomach.
But then I remembered.
All the intuitive work I have done.
I took a deep breath and decided to stay open to what might show up next to guide the way forward.
And sometimes, I think that's what trusting your intuition really asks of us.
Not that we know exactly what is going to happen.
Not that we have every answer.
But that we remain open enough to listen.
Listening to Your Inner Wisdom
One morning, I was sitting in my husband's office at the restaurant thinking about what to do next, and then the radio started playing "Our House."
If you don't know it, it's a 1970 folk-rock song by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.
It was also one of those songs that my dad loved, who's on the other side.
And it felt as if it was calling out to my Soul.
I perked up.
Closed my eyes.
Asked:
Is this you, Dad?
And a resounding YES flooded through me.
So—not caring how crazy I'd look if anyone walked in—I said out loud:
"Okay, Dad. What do I do next?"
Clear as day, I heard him tell me to search for a specific kind of loan I only vaguely knew about.
I balked.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I already tried something like that.
And then I saw him smile in my mind's eye and say:
"Trust, honey."
So I listened.
He led me to a lender I had never seen in all my searching.
I booked an appointment.
We'll see, I thought.
Green lights started coming back on.
Sometimes Intuition Doesn't Tell You the Whole Story
And then—on my birthday—the call came:
Pre-approved!!!
If the seller was on board, we'd close in 30 days.
My husband and I were so excited.
Here. We. Go.
The second I hung up (no joke, the literal second after), my realtor called.
"I've got bad news…"
And that's where the story gets interesting.
Because sometimes we follow our intuition, see the signs, and feel completely certain we're heading in the right direction…
…and then something happens that makes us question everything again.
But I've learned that trusting your intuition doesn't necessarily mean knowing exactly where it's taking you.
It doesn't mean every door will open.
It doesn't mean every "yes" will lead to the outcome you imagined.
And it doesn't mean you'll never experience self-doubt.
Sometimes, intuition simply invites us to take the next step.
To listen.
To stay open.
To breathe.
To trust what we know within ourselves—even when we don't yet understand the bigger picture.
Your Intuition Can Become an Anchor During Change
Spiritual awakening isn't always about receiving some huge, undeniable revelation.
Sometimes it looks much quieter.
It can be learning to recognize the difference between fear and inner wisdom.
It can be noticing when self-doubt has taken over.
It can be practicing mindfulness long enough to become still and listen beneath the noise.
And sometimes, it can be following a small nudge without knowing where it will lead.
For me, this experience became another reminder that my intuition wasn't something I needed to control.
It was something I could learn to listen to.
And the more I practiced listening, the more I learned that I didn't need to have the entire path mapped out before taking the next step.
I only needed to trust the next one.

Trusting Your Intuition Doesn't Mean Knowing the Ending
Looking back, this experience taught me something I return to again and again:
Just because we follow our intuition doesn't mean we know exactly where it's heading.
It just means we trust that we don't have to know everything yet.
Sometimes the path unfolds one step at a time.
Sometimes a door closes.
Sometimes a song plays at exactly the moment you need to hear it.
And sometimes the biggest invitation is simply to pause, listen, and ask:
What do I know beneath all this fear?
That quiet knowing is worth listening to.
Because your intuition may not always tell you the whole story.
But it can help you come home to yourself.
